If you were paying attention during those sexual education classes that your teachers forced you to sit through during high school, then you probably remember hearing a warning along the lines of “you can get pregnant at any time, even during your period.” As alarming as this particular notion be might, it doesn’t quite seem to align with what biology taught us about the reproduction process.
During the menstrual cycle, a woman will release an egg during ovulation. Following ovulation, the egg will move towards the uterus via the fallopian tubes. If sperm is then introduced into the picture, then fertilization of the egg might take place. But if the egg does not get fertilized, then it will be shed during the woman’s next period. In other words, if having your period means that there’s no egg to fertilize, then getting pregnant during your period is impossible, right? Wrong.
Dr. John Payne is an infertility specialist at South Carolina’s Piedmont Reproductive Endocrinology Group, P.A. (PREG), a facility that caters to couples facing infertility and reproductive issues, and according to him, it is possible, though highly unlikely, for a woman to get pregnant while on her period. For a woman to get pregnant during her period, she’d need to have an incredibly short menstrual cycle. However, if this happens to be the case, then sexual intercourse during her period could result in pregnancy thanks to the ability of sperm to survive inside a woman’s body.
Sperm, on average, can survive inside a woman’s body for two to three days. However, under certain circumstances, they can survive for as many as five days. Therefore, if two people have sex while a woman is on her period, and she begins ovulating again only a few days after her period has ended, then those scrappy sperm just might end up sticking around to make a baby. Now since most women don’t tend to ovulate so shortly after having their periods, the likelihood of such a thing happening is relatively slim; however, this doesn’t mean that it can’t ever happen. In other words, your sexual education instructors weren’t just feeding you a line – it is actually possible, though not very likely, to get pregnant during your period.
Another thing to realize about the notion of getting pregnant on your period is that not every instance of bleeding is actually a true period. In fact, many women have a tendency to mistake heavy spotting during ovulation for an actual period. Therefore, what sometimes ends up happening is that a woman, convinced that she’s in the clear on the pregnancy front, will engage in unprotected intercourse during what she thinks is her period; however, in doing so, she will actually increase her chances of getting pregnant by having sex during her most fertile days of the month.
If getting pregnant is something that you truly want to avoid for the time being, then your best bet is to have one or more methods of birth control in place every single time you choose to have sex. Remember, as inconvenient as the notion of birth control might be, it’s far easier to unwrap that condom or pop that pill than it is to spend the next several decades of your life caring for an unwanted child.

Sinitta who was voted of Dancing On ice on week one has suggested that since Dannii Minogue is pregnant, Cheryl Cole “should get pregnant” so they can have a “battle of the bumps” contest.
A little while ago it was announced that Dannii Minogue and boyfriend Kris Smith are going to have their first baby together.
Sinitta confessed that she was looking forward to seeing Dannii’s “baby bump” during the auditions for this year’s X Factor.
She is reported in the Daily Star as saying: “Dannii is going to have the most stylish bump on the planet. It will be so great seeing her pregnant while we are doing all the auditions. We have to get Cheryl pregnant now to see how you dress the Cole bump. It will be incredible. Then it will be a vote on who had the most stylish bump.”
So do you agree with Sinitta? Leave your comments below …

Since I will be 30 weeks on Tuesday, which leaves us with 10 weeks if I go to 40 weeks, we(or maybe I) decided it was time to start getting a bit organized. The other day when laying in bed Jason and I were racking our brains with everything that needs to be done before Emma arrives and it felt like an overwhelming amount of stuff. Well that conversation lead us to the preparation weekend. Let me break it down for you:
*Friday – I didn't have school because of the freezing rain. Jason and I knew we were headed out of town over the weekend to hit up Babies R Us with some coupons. We had originally planned on heading there on Saturday, but had a funeral to attend for a dear church friend. Since that was the case we went with Plan B. We checked out the road conditions online and all looked clear. So about 11am we headed to Babies R Us. It turned out that the roads were just fine and it worked out great that I didn't have school allowing for the trip to take place on Friday. While at Babies R Us we bought my pump, the crib mattress, and FINALLY found something that said I Love My Uncle. It is just a bib, but we were excited. After Babies R Us we headed to Red Robin to take advantage of a coupon I had gotten. Food was great, but the service was horrible. When we headed home, we stopped by K-Mart to see about getting the wooden letters. We want to spell out both of the girls' names above their beds, but K-Mart is always lacking one letter. We then headed home making a stop in Waynesboro at Target and Kohl's. We did well at Kohl's picking up a few things for next Fall marked way down and we even found Emma's coming home outfit. Once home I got this crazy idea to clean our bedroom(quite a task), move the dresser, switch out the filing cabinet, and get the Pack n Play in place in our room. Jason was up for it and needless to say we finished about 8pm and then had a late dinner.
Saturday – I again decided to do some organizing. This meant Jason heading out to the attached building to get totes of girl clothes we have been saving from Cloey. I went through the totes deciding what I truly wanted to keep and what I would put in a Yard Sale this summer. After working on that for about 2 hours we got ready and headed to the funeral. Once home we decided to relax for the evening. Well that didn't happen, because we both decided that the closet organizer should be installed immediately. So we headed to Lowe's bought the organizer and finally a power drill for Jason. The closet organizer is a story in itself. But to make a long story short they are in and looks great. After working on that for quite awhile, we again had a late dinner.
Sunday – We got up and headed to church. Once home from church Jason and I both had school/house work that had to be done. After getting those items done, I decided to work on getting Emma's clothes organized. I went through the totes, washed the items in Dreft, and then organized them the best I can in the closet.
Now needless to say I am a very worn out pregnant woman. We still have a lot more to get done, but I feel much better since we got a TON of stuff done this weekend. We are waiting for our furniture to arrive and then once it is put together and stuff can find homes we will feel much better. Right now Cloey and Emma's bedroom looks like a hodge podge of baby stuff. We will see if I can get a majority of it organized before Cloey arrives on Friday evening. She slept in her bedroom all by herself the last time she was here and we don't want to break that again. Our 30 week appointment is on Tuesday, so check back for updates. Now that we go every two weeks, time is flying by.
Things seem to have changed a bit since I was a young’un.
They don’t give their names, but viewers can see their faces plainly and what these teens are saying is shocking parents.
“I ended up having sex with more than one person that night and then in the morning I was trying to get morning-after pills,” one of the girls said. “I was, like, 14 at the time.”
After four years researching for the documentary, [Canadian filmmaker Sharlene] Azam told “Good Morning America” that oral sex is as common as kissing for teens and that casual prostitution — being paid at parties to strip, give sexual favors or have sex — is far more commonplace than once believed.
“If you talk to teens [about oral sex] they’ll tell you it’s not a big deal,” Azam said. “In fact, they don’t consider it sex. they don’t consider a lot of things sex.”
Evidence of this casual attitude may be seen in the fact that more than half of all teens 15 to 19 years old have engaged in oral sex, according to a comprehensive 2005 study by the Centers for Disease Control’s National Center for Health Statistics.
In the documentary, “Oral Sex is the New Goodnight Kiss,” girls as young as 11 years old talk about having sex, going to sex parties and — in some extreme situations — crossing into prostitution by exchanging sexual favors for money, clothes or even homework and then still arriving home in time for dinner with the family.
There’s a movie coming out based on the true story of “a group of high school girls that agreed to get pregnant, take care of their babies together and, presumably, live happily ever after.”

Elizabeth Adeney is pregnant at 66. And though her extremely-late-in-life pregnancy has prompted a great deal of controversy, Elizabeth Adeney is vigorously defending her right to have a child. Elizabeth Adeney has also set a new record: she is the oldest pregnant woman in England's history.
Pregnant at 66: “I'm just a pregnant lady,” proclaims Elizabeth Adeney
According to The Sun, Elizabeth Adeney's pregnancy is the result of IVF treatment using a donor egg. Elizabeth Adeney, who is eight months pregnant, is rather perplexed at the uproar her pregnancy as triggered. “I'm just a pregnant lady,” said Elizabeth Adeney to The Sun. “This isn't about creating a fuss, just about becoming a mum. I may be older than other mothers but people should have better things to worry about.”
Pregnant at 66: How About Pregnant at 70?
As hard as it is to believe, just last year a woman had a baby at the astonishing age of 70. Rajo Devi, a 70-year-old woman who lives in India, gave birth to a baby girl after undergoing fertility treatments. “We longed for a child all these years and now we are very happy to have one in the twilight years of our life,” said Rajo Devi to the Telegraph at the time of her child's birth. She is believed to be the world's oldest mother. Before that, the worlds' oldest mother was a 67-year-old woman from Spain, who gave birth to twins in 2006.
Pregnant at 66: Ethical Considerations
Many people would argue that getting pregnant at 66 is the ultimate act of selfishness. They would question whether a woman that old has the energy and stamina required to be a good mother. In addition, when one has a child that late in life, one runs the risk of dying before their child even graduates college. This strikes many as being enormously unfair to the child.
Another issue being debated is the fact that Elizabeth Adeney got pregnant by undergoing IVF treatment. Some people are questioning the judgment of the fertility doctor(s) that treated her (this recalls the debate surrounding the wildly-controversial pregnancy of Octo-Mom Nadya Suleman). Was it a responsible decision to help a 66-year-old woman get pregnant?
The pregnancy of Elizabeth Adeney has set off a media firestorm and her story is sure to be discussed at water coolers for a long time to come.
